On A♠ 7♦ 2♣, the textbook dry board: one high card, no draws to speak of. Counted exactly, the Nit arrives with the most two pair or better (7.1% of its live combos) and the Reg the least (4.0%). Any two cards make two pair or better 3.1% of the time: the baseline a range is above or below on this board. The Maniac misses most often: 45.8% of its combos have no pair and no draw. The Maniac holds the most draws without a pair (1.3%).

Count, then share of that range’s live combos. Each combo sits in its strongest bucket only. Set combos across the stated ranges: Nit 3, Calling Station 9, Maniac 9, Reg 6.

The deck-wide counting

Before any range comes into it, the board fixes how many combos of the big hands exist at all. Each board card leaves three of its rank in the deck:

AA: 3 aces left, C(3, 2) = 3 combos of a set
77: 3 sevens left, C(3, 2) = 3 combos of a set
22: 3 twos left, C(3, 2) = 3 combos of a set
A7: 3 × 3 = 9 combos of two pair
A2: 3 × 3 = 9 combos of two pair
72: 3 × 3 = 9 combos of two pair

Counted flops: four ranges side by side

The counting behind it

// what is counted and what is assumed
  • The counts are exact. Every combo in the range is dealt against the deck with the board and your cards removed. Nothing is sampled or rounded until display.
  • The ranges are assumptions. The four opponents are stated ranges, printed in full on /opponents so they can be argued with. They are not solver output, and nobody arrives on the flop with exactly these hands. Paste your own range into the counter to count yours.
  • Each combo is counted once, in its strongest bucket: top pair with a flush draw counts as top pair. Draws are only listed for hands without a pair.
  • Straight draws are counted by ranks: two ranks that complete a straight is open-ended (a double gutter counts), one is a gutshot. Board-only straights and flushes that need none of your cards do not count as draws.
  • Combos are not equity. A range with more sets is not automatically ahead: the equity calculator and spot check deal the run-outs.
