Omaha equity calculator

Up to 9 hands of 4 cards, any board, any dead cards. The engine deals every possible run-out and scores every hand on each the Omaha way, exactly two hole cards with exactly three from the board, so win, split and equity are counts, not simulations: the same to the last digit for anyone who opens the link.

Nothing computed yet. The engine runs in your browser once the page has loaded.

// what is computed, and what is assumed
  • Computed: every possible run-out, dealt from the cards nobody holds, with every hand scored under Omaha rules: the best of all its two-hole-card, three-board-card five-card hands. No sampling, so no error bars.
  • How it is scored: when the page loads, the engine scores every distinct five-card rank pattern and every flush once, into a lookup table the calculator reads. That table is tested against the engine on all 2,598,960 five-card hands, so every comparison is the engine’s own.
  • High only. Omaha hi-lo (eight or better) splits pots between a high and a low hand; that is not computed here, so do not read these numbers for PLO8.
  • Assumed: everyone sees the showdown. Equity is each hand's share of the pot if nobody folds and no more money goes in. In pot-limit that is exact once everyone is all-in; with chips behind it is a starting point, not a verdict.
  • Specific hands only. Omaha ranges hold hundreds of thousands of combinations, so equity against a range is not here.
  • Input: cards as rank then suit, spaces optional: As Ah Ks Kh, or AsAhKsKh. Every hand needs the same number of cards: four for PLO, five or six for the bigger variants.

Omaha equities run closer than hold’em

In hold’em, AA against KK is 81.9% for the aces. In Omaha the pairs come with two more cards each, and those cards decide the matchup: ragged aces against suited, connected kings is 57.2% for the aces. Even the best starting hand there is, AAKK double-suited, owns only 61.5% against a double-suited rundown. And four-way, the rundown is the favourite at 34.7%, ahead of the aces at 31.2%. Preflop all-ins in PLO are rarely the big edges they are in hold’em.

Exactly two hole cards, exactly three from the board

Every Omaha hand is two hole cards plus three board cards: no more, no fewer. That is the rule behind the most common misread at the table. With four hearts on the board, one heart in your hand is not a flush; in this river showdown the ace of hearts makes a pair and the three and two of hearts win the pot. The calculator applies the rule on every board, and on a complete board it shows which five cards each hand actually plays.

Why the numbers are exact

Preflop with two four-card hands there are 1,086,008 possible boards, and each hand is the best of 60 five-card hands on every one of them. Instead of calling the engine for each of those, the calculator has the engine score every distinct five-card pattern once, when the page loads, then reads that table: a fraction of a second for a flop, about a second for a full preflop deal. Nothing is sampled, so there is no error bar and no seed, and a hold’em deal on the hold’em calculator is enumerated the same way.

The trainer is hold’em only for now: call/fold decisions and equity reads, graded in big blinds against stated ranges.
